Basil 'Sweet', Carters Tested Seeds, 600 seeds, 79p. 8 April 2011 indoor; onwards as required. (Quick to bolt Summer 2011).

*Calendula 'Orange King', (Hardy Annual), Carters Tested Seeds, 150 seeds, 79pence. 18 March 2011 indoor (nearly 100% germination). (Planted outside 1st June). (Very happy with Orange King Summer 2010 & 2011 - superb colour. Deadheading needed)

**Celeriac 'Monarch', (easier to grow than celery), Mr Fothergill's, 250 seeds, £1.65. 3 April 2011 indoor(good germination). Bulbs slow to mature. Jan 2012 - still in the ground!

**Celery, Plant Hart's Seeds, US$2.29. 3 April 2011 indoor (good germination). June planted outside (veg box). Slugs don't eat! Very happy with result.

*Chard 'Bright Lights', Mr Fotehrgill's, 150 seeds, £2.29. (Happy with this Summer 2010).

**Chillis (hot) - Pepper (Hot) Cayenne, Mr Fothergill's, 60 seeds, £1.89. 20 Feb 2011 indoor (germinated in plastic bag; good germination). Yellowing leaves (too much water?); high producing. (Pinched growing tip April/May.). In 2012 - grow in 6 inch pots; Don't pinch plants. (Disappointing as peppers weren't hot!)

**Cineraria 'Maritima Silverdust' (Half Hardy Annual), Carters Tested Seeds, 130 seeds, 79p. 18 March 2011 indoor.  Lovely colour: grow more in 2012.

Morning Glory 'Carnevale di Venezia', (Half Hardy Annual), Thompson & Morgan, £1.99. circa 7 May 2011 indoor (75% germination). Slowish to establish; lots of flowers early Sept.

Nicotiana 'Evening Fragance', (Half Hardy Annual), Carters Tested Seeds, 1,800 seeds. 79p. 18 March 2011 indoor (high germination rate). Quick growing; great height; good cottage style plant. I didn't deadhead they still flowered well over long period.

Poached Egg Plant 'Limnanthes Douglasii, (Hardy Annual), Carters Tested Seeds,100 seeds, 90p. Sown direct into soil summer 2010. Self seeds. Prolific flowering up to twice a year. Possibly hard to get rid of this plant as prolific self seeder.


Potatoes - Maris Peer. (bags or ground? probably ground). (Very happy with Maris Peer Summer 2010  - disease resistant; stored well into Winter). 3 April 2011 ground. May 2011 several plants savaged by slugs. In 2012 - grow in pots/bags.

Verbena Bonariensis (Hardy Perennial), Thompson & Morgan seeds, £2.49, 200 seeds. Sown indoor 26 March 2011. Planted outside June 2011. 50% or less germination. 1 of 3 plants strong and one reached 5 feet, other 2 plants weaker but happy with them. Great!
