I'll have to double check the variety (as I forgot to check the label) but they are either James Scarlet or Early Nantes.
Recycled plastic bubble wrap goes over the plants at night to keep them cosy.
You may spot pak choi growing in the wheelbarrow as well. A growing experiment.
I'm delighted to be pulling up carrots in November!
A very Happy Thanksgiving week to
fellow American bloggers!
Have a lovely day!
Very nice!
ReplyDeleteYep still digging ours here in Canada too, although the snow makes it harder to find them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for you good wishes. I sound like a broken record when I say that I am amazed at how successful you are with your container growing. The carrots look really good.
ReplyDeleteThat's very good harvest of carrot!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving to you too!
Happy Thanksgiving from another devotee of growing carrots in RAISED containers! Yours look like truly great specimens. Any trouble with Carrot Root Fly?
ReplyDeleteThey look great, I bet they taste good too.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing quite like the taste of home grown carrots!
ReplyDeleteHi Kelli, those carrots look great! The ones we plant early in the season in a barrel always come up unscathed by fly or slugs too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great crop. You can tell they'll be so healthy and tasty to eat just by looking at them.
ReplyDeleteI'm growing my carrots in plastic container bags too for the first time here in Melbourne and they seem to be doing fine, so far.
Wish I could say the same for my bok choy...I've never grown them before and they are a sorry sight. Long spindles with flowers. I'm not sure whether to just wait or pull them out :(
Such a learning curve full of trials and tribulations.
Excellent job on success for extending longer carrot harvest season. I bet those roots are very sweet after exposure with frost.
ReplyDeleteHi Kelli,
ReplyDeleteThose carrots look really wonderful!
I'm growing carrots in containers, too. I bought some big, blue plastic tubs, drilled holes for drainage, and filled with good quality potting mix. I planted Little Fingers baby carrots on August 30. We ate the first ones this week!
Our temperatures are dipping down to freezing at night so I cover them with several layers of cloth and then with a sheet of thick plastic. I did not think of using bubble wrap. Great idea!
Your carrots are beautiful and I know they taste great!

Thanks for your comments. I've had no carrot root fly that I know of. This year i only grew carrots in containers or raised bed. One year I grew carrots direct in the ground and they didn't suffer from carrot root fly but the small rocks and pebbles in the ground didn't help them to grow properly.
