Favourite May Colour

This is a beautiful time  of year with plants putting on lots of growth, herbaceous / perennial plants coming to life and bees and butterflies fluttering about.

There's lots of Spring colour about and not long until a sunny summer (well, hopefully we'll get some sun)!

Here's what has caught my eye this month in the garden.

Left:  Bergenia flower.
Above: Heuchera Midnight Rose - looks pretty with raindrops.
Above: Native Cherry trees have been in flower this month - lovely blooms!
Above: Pinks are attractive with Heather giving a long flowering season.
Just beginning to flower now - Aquilegia / Columbine plants. This is one plant I would like to see freely self seed around the garden but it doesn't seem to.

Soon I will be off to Chelsea Flower Show for the 1st time - very exciting! Two women from Northern Ireland have received a Silver and a Bronze in the floral categories so I must check out their displays at the show!

  3. Hi Kelli, You have a beautiful Spring garden! I love the Heuchera leaves.....and your Heather is lovely....Are the blossoms on the Columbine standing upright? I have one that does and now that you mention it, it hasn't self-seeded. I hope you enjoy yourself at the garden show! Happy Gardening!

  4. Ah, your garden is currently in the Pink / Pastel phase. How lovely. I hope you enjoy the Chelsea show. I've never been, but Jane has and she says I would absolutely LOVE it. All you see on the TV is the high-profile but very artificial show gardens, but I would be more interested in the more realistic stuff that never appears on camera. The Hydrangea that won Plant of the Year is fabulous.

  5. Its all looking lovely & yes it is a fab time of year. It took a few year for aquilegias to start self seeding their way round my garden. Hope you have a great time at Chelsea.

  6. Lovely photos. The fruit tree blossom has been fabulous everywhere this year.My aquilegias are in full bloom now .They have only really got going with self seeding in the last couple of years and I'm potting up some of the stronger seedlings which spring up in the pathways between my raised beds.
Have also noticed that last year's wallflowers in pots have self seeded around so I'm trying to leave the ones which are growing next to the low wall half way up the garden.
    Lots of free plants!

  7. Take thousands of photos at the flower show and take my spirit with you. Such great fun and inspiration you will have. I should send you some columbine seed for they sprout like weeds here. I have only planted one, the blue one, our state flower, but I have others that must have traveled on the wind. Have a fabulous time.

  8. Aquelegia/Columbine/Granny's Bonnet has reseeded itself even in the gravel of my garden and has spread around other beds.I went to Chelsea for the first and only time last year and thought it was very small with very little veg on show! We are off to Bloom in Phoenix Park next weekend which is an annual outing for my sister and myself
