Lovin' the Sweetpea

At the Garden Show Ireland this year I bought an impressive large tripod of sweetpea for only £10 (about USA $17) from the students at Greenmount Horticultural College and planted it in a corner of the garden at the end of May. It contains a mixture of pink, purple and white flowering sweetpea and is very attractive indeed!
I've grown sweetpea in the past and it usually ends up a tangled mess. This year, it is also progressing into a tangled plant, however I'm cutting lots of flowers to bring indoors and it looks good in the garden. I'm trying to deadhead regularly, and feed regularly to keep it flowering and healthy-looking for a long period. 

Sweetpea is a lovely garden plant, and it smells quite nice. So glad I purchased it!

Every week I'm bringing fresh sweetpea indoors and the scent is really fab!

    I'm growing Sweet Peas for the first time, and I am just getting to the stage where there are enough flowers to justify picking them. Their perfume is very strong, and even a few blooms fill the room with scent. Beautiful. Mine are mostly dark colours, which I prefer to the pastel shades.

    Your sweet pea flowers are beautifuI! I am also growing Sweet Peas for the first time. They were planted in May next to a fence for climbing. There are no flowers yet...but can't wait to see and smell the flowers!

    We grew sweet peas last year - they were mostly purple and like Mark I prefer different pale shades. Seeing yours I feel sorry we didn't think of growing any this year as they have a lovely fragrance. Enjoy!

    They are very fragrant aren't they, I've been picking a few from mine & the scent in the room is just lovely. You got a great bargain there.

    Sweet pea is one of my favorite blooms! I remember once when I needed quick bouquets for a bridal shower and used pastel ones from the Kentucky garden. Everyone complimented the arrangements. The one you made is really pretty....wish I had sweet peas here in Florida to cut for the house!

    I love the purple one. I'm also growing sweet peas this year. The annual ones smell really great and look nice...perennials are still small we'll see how they look next year.

    I absolutely love sweet peas but they're hard to grow here. They barely germinate in the spring and die quickly in our hot summer. But I grew up with them and have such fond memories of their scent. :o) Yours are beautiful!

    Lovely! I don't think I've ever seen sweet pea in pots, only seeds, and they don't do much for my garden so I had to give up. But I sure wish I could smell that divine fragrance!
